Review Week

This week has been a review week- since we are done with our first quarter of home school! (This is "The Mom") I am posting to brag about how wonderful these kids did this quarter. :)

This week we had a spelling test every day to review the past 8 weeks worth of Spelling Tests. Ella had 144 words total and got 100%! Aaron and Ashton had 82 spelling words and Aaron got 100% and Ashton only missed one.  Not too bad!!!

For math--Ella got 100% on her math test. Aaron and Ashton had 80 problems of addition through 18. Aaron got 80/80 and Ashton got 77/80.  They also had 80 problems of subtraction through 18 and Aaron got 72/80 and Ashton got 65/80.  I must say---for skipping a grade Ashton has done very well. This test was actually the first time either of them did that many subtraction problems all by themselves- so I didn't know how they'd do. I am proud of them though. They both don't like subtraction very much- but they worked through that test. I've seen lots of improvement even in these 9 weeks of school. I'm excited to see even more improvement.

For Reading- Ella finished a book called "Addie's Dakota Winter".  We both liked it--it gave us a glimpse of what life on the prairie would be like. It was similar to the "Little House on the Prairie" books.
The boys have been reading "Farmer Boy" and love it!! It's always a good sign when I finish a chapter and they beg me to keep reading. :)

For Science- the kids got to re-do all of their favorite science experiments over the last 9 weeks.

For Social Studies--Ella is studying the Revolutionary War. She got to research weapons used, and she researched a heroine of the War named Molly Pitcher.
The boys are focusing on communities.

They are all doing well in piano. I love hearing them practice- it's one of my favorite sounds!

That is a an overview of what we did this week- our Review Week. I am so proud of these kiddos!! So far, home schooling has gone really well. They have great attitudes for the most part, and I love watching them learn and progress.

The Liberty Bell

In school I've been learning about the Liberty Bell. The Liberty Bell rang on July 4, 1776. When my mom was a kid she lived in Pennsylvania so we asked my grandma if she had any pictures of the Liberty bell.  This is what she sent me.
 The Liberty Bell.
This is my great great grandma by the Liberty bell.

My Tee Pee

This is me, Ashton and Josh. Yesterday we went over to our "secret lair" and there were 3 piles of sticks. We made a Tee Pee out of the sticks. This is why we made the Tee pee---we have been learning about different kinds of shelters in Social Studies. So my mom said we should build a Tee Pee and we did, and it was FUN!

Fun with popcorn

This is my story for Reading. It's called "Farmer Boy".  I like it because it's about a boy named Almanzo, and he just turned 9.

In the book he ate popcorn and milk and said to fill a cup full of popcorn and fill a cup full of milk and put the popcorn piece by piece in the milk cup and it wouldn't overflow. So we wanted to try it!

What I did yesterday

This is my brick house. I did this in Social Studies. We have been talking about different kinds of shelter.

I wrote inside the house what it was made out of.

On Tuesday I lost my tooth!
This is the tooth I lost.

The fox and his lesson

Today in Grammar I wrote a Fable about a fox and a lesson he learned. Here is my story.

Once upon a time there was a very selfish fox.  He only cared about him and his stuff.  The fox lived alone in an old oak tree.  Just the way he liked it.  But one day his family decided to pay him a visit.  "Hey Fritz," the fox's dad said.  "Uh what are you doing here?   You know I like to be alone, only my stuff is welcome," the fox replied.  " Well we just wanted to pay you a visit, we haven't seen you in so long," said his mom.  " Pay how much?" said the fox eagerly.  "How about we pay you in love," replied his dad.  " Love? I don't think so," the fox said as he slammed the door.  "I thought we were being friendly," said his sister.  "Apparently not," said his brother.  "Oh well lets go visit Vernen," said his dad.
The next day a friendly old turtle wobbled by with a plate of cookies.  He wanted to share them with someone.  So he knocked on the first door he came upon, which was the fox's.  So the turtle knocked on the fox's door.  "What do you need," yelled the fox.  "Uh I just wanted to share these cookies with you," replied the turtle.  "If you have cookies you may set them on the table then leave," said the fox.  "OK then," replied the turtle.
The next few days the turtle kept bringing the fox cookies.  Then finally the turtle said "I will only let you have these cookies if you share them with me," "Oh I suppose so," replied the fox.  Then the fox and the turtle decided to eat cookies together every day.  The fox and the turtle became very good friends.  The fox decided that having friends was nice.  He also decided to have his family over for dinner.  The fox had learned a very valuable lesson.  That friends and family are important and it's OK to share.

Yellowstone

On Friday we went to Yellowstone!!!! This is us on the way there.
We stayed in a cabin in Island Park. It was way fun.
This is us in front of the cabin.
Liv and Preston.
At the cabin there was a rope swing, we all loved it.
Ashton helping Livia onto the swing, such a kind brother.
The next day we went into Yellowstone. Guess what we saw first?
Then we saw some buffalo.

This is another Elk we saw. He's kind of hard to see.

The boys looking at the Elk.

Me and Livia walking down the path.

This is a Mud Volcano.

Me and Mom.
Aaron by the big crater.
Me by the crater.
While we where waiting for Old Faithful to erupt, Preston had fun running over the boys and Livia. He thought it was hilarious.

Dad by Old Faithful.
Mom and Dad

The last thing we did was drive to the top of a mountain.  The view was amazing. I had a great time in Yellowstone, and we plan on going again in a couple of weeks. Because we never got to do the northern loop, and that's when all the Elk start bugling.

Piano lessons

I have been playing piano for six years. I like it. These are some of my new songs. They are called Alouette, and Ode to Joy. Beethoven wrote Ode to Joy. He was our composer of the month that we learned about. Beethoven was deaf later in life but he still wrote songs.

Guitar lessons

I started taking guitar lessons from my friends. I like doing it. Soon I want to play with my teachers, all together. I think it sounds fun.
