tee pees

In Social Studies we made tee pees. This is how we made them.

First we cut out a pattern

Then my mom traced the pattern onto the fabric.

Then we put the sticks together with wire to look like a tee pee, wile  my mom cut the pattern out of the fabric.
This is after we tied the sticks  together.
Then we decorated the tee pee.
More decorating.
After that we hot glued the fabric around the sticks.

The back of my tee pee.

These are all of our tee pees ( Aaron's on the left, mine in the middle, and Ella's on the right )

What I did in Science

These are the ingredients. Baking soda, a bottle, vinegar, and a balloon
In Science we're learning about solids, liquids and gases. We did an experiment to show that gases can fill up balloons. This is our experiment.....

First you pour the vinegar in the bottle
Then you pour the baking soda in the balloon
Then you put the balloon over the bottle and tip the baking soda into the bottle

Then it blows up the balloon with the gas it makes!
This is the balloon we blew up.

Aliens

This is what my Curriculum said to do for Social Studies. Ask the student to imagine that a colony of creatures from space landed on earth, and immediately began tearing down neighborhoods and cities. The creatures made it clear that they needed to do this in order to esablish a settlement for thier families. They were unhappy on their planet and hoped to find freedom on this planet. Have the student write about how the people of earth can react.

This is my story. It is from the point of view of a girl from the town, and this is her journal entry.

June 15, 1987

Today we finally decided to let the aliens stay, and live in our town.  We had a big meeting, and this is how it went.  Mayor  Brigams started the meeting with his speech, which by the way was very long.  His speech was about how the aliens came to earth and blah blah blah.  Then we talked about living with the aliens.  One person said "we could teach them the way of our life and they could teach us the way of theirs,"  "It would be a great learning experience," claimed another person.  Then my father, my own father stood up and yelled "it would ruin our way of life!"  Finally Mayor Brigams made my father and the other person stop yelling at each other.  Then we decided to have a vote. 60 out of 100 people decided to let the aliens stay. So we let them stay and it's been fine so far and I even made a friend; her name is Loazia. Just don't tell my father. ;)

Social Studies

Today we learned about Ashton, Idaho. In Ashton, Idaho they are about 320 acres of land. About 1,200 people live there.  Ashton is right by Yellowstone. We saw pictures of Mesa Falls and Cave Falls--those are near-by too.

Cave Falls
A long time ago my great grandparents lived there. And my grandpa lived there too when he was a boy.
Every year in Ashton, Idaho they have a dog derby. This year it is in February and I want to go see it! It's a dog sled race and it looks really neat. They ride right down main street and then out on the snowy fields.

Yesterday we learned about Spencer, Idaho. There is not many people who live there. There is only 36 people who live in Spencer, Idaho. We learned that they mine opal there. I think opal looks cool. I want to see the opal mine some day.

Dancing Raisins

We had a fun Science project today. We have been studying buoyancy - and we were seeing what raisins would do in water and then in Sprite.

This is me Ashton, doing our Science project.

First we put raisins in the Sprite. The raisins sank to the bottom.

Then the bubbles made them float back to the top! It does this because of the carbonation.
Then we tried it in water. The raisin did not float to the top because water has no carbonation

My Zoo Story

How we escaped out of the Zoo

By Mindy The Giraffe
p.s. this post was done by Ella

Once upon a time there was a zoo full of animals. It was just a normal zoo but what everybody didn't know was we could talk. "Ya ya we can talk," " Joe I'm telling the story
you can't talk unless I say," " Sorry that was Joe the lion he thinks he's the boss of every body just 'cause he's the king of the jungle," "I mean,"
Oh by the way my name is Mindy the giraffe.Giraffes are very tall it's mostly my neck but some is my legs. Anyway back to the story.
This story was a few months ago. It all started when I called a meeting."Meeting Meeting," I called. "Coming Mindy," "No I'm just telling the story Joe," "Oh why are you telling this story anyway we all know it, we were there," " Oh be quiet Joe," " OK OK," I hope I Don't have anymore interruptions, by Joe especially."
So we all gathered up for the meeting. I started it by saying, "is anyone else cramped in their cages cause I sure am." Everybody raised there paw. Joe quickly replied. "So its settled then," Then we all looked at him funny. "Whats settled?" we all said at the same time. "We're  leaving the zoo," "Joe do you really think that's safe?" Joe's wife Helen asked. "Ya, it's simple, we just get out of our cages now. All that we have to do is knock out the night guards guarding the gate, and Billy can open the gate with his thumbs since he's got'em," (Billy the monkey always bragged about his thumbs.)
We all thought this was a crazy idea but it was worth a try. "But Joe where are we going to go after we get out of the zoo? If they catch us they will just put us back," said Helen." " We will head straight for Central Park. It's just around the corner," said Joe. "We can make it," replied the bear twins. "OK, then its settled we will leave tomorrow night,"I said, ending the meeting.
The next night Joe and Helen knocked out the night guards. Then Billy opened the gate and we were out. We ran as fast as we could to Central Park. It was really late at night so everyone was asleep. When we got there we found a perfect hide out, and we've been here ever since. As for the zoo, there was no animals left so it is now Central Park Pool. Well that's the end of the story of how we escaped the Central Park Zoo. Bye.

How many pennies can it hold?

Today we learned about water.
Water has surface tension. It took 49 pennies to make the water in the glass spill.

This is oil. It only took 28 pennies to make it spill. We had a lot of fun doing Science.
