Social Studies

Today we learned about Ashton, Idaho. In Ashton, Idaho they are about 320 acres of land. About 1,200 people live there.  Ashton is right by Yellowstone. We saw pictures of Mesa Falls and Cave Falls--those are near-by too.

A long time ago my great grandparents lived there. And my grandpa lived there too when he was a boy.
Every year in Ashton, Idaho they have a dog derby. This year it is in February and I want to go see it! It's a dog sled race and it looks really neat. They ride right down main street and then out on the snowy fields.

Yesterday we learned about Spencer, Idaho. There is not many people who live there. There is only 36 people who live in Spencer, Idaho. We learned that they mine opal there. I think opal looks cool. I want to see the opal mine some day.

  1. They also mine a lot of opals in Australia, they are very pretty! We used to have a neighbor here in WA that had a dog sled team. To practice in the summer he had the dogs pull him up the big hills by us on his bicycle or he would have them pull his truck down the road!
